Walk through a grand Alabama farmhouse with an envy-worthy kitchen

For growing families, ample square footage isn't a luxury but a necessity. Consequently, when the home next door to the Baileys came up for sale, they jumped at the opportunity to move into a larger home. However, the home itself had fallen into disrepair and couldn't be restored. Taking advantage of the situation, Katherine and Clark Bailey set out to build a new home in its place. The new structure, designed to reflect neighborhood architecture that was popular in the early 1900s, is a palatial 3,100 square feet (288 sq. m). The main floor houses the kitchen, dining and living rooms and the master suite and office. The second floor contains the remaining three bedrooms and a den.
The color scheme of the entire home centers around soft white walls with deep blue-gray and wood accents. From the trim around the casement windows to the kitchen cabinetry and fireplace surround, a dramatic blue-gray adds contrast and interest. The resulting aesthetic is dramatic and inviting and displays the concept of elegant farmhouse living.

Rustic wood beams frame openings between the dining room, kitchen and living room.
The kitchen cabinetry has been painted the same blue-gray that is seen throughout the home. White Calacatta marble countertops and gold-toned hardware provide a touch of glamour.
